AI Systems Foundations

Audience
Students, educators, workforce programs, and community learners
Formats
90 minutes · Half-day · Four-session cohort

The entry point. Participants learn the Applied AI System Map by walking real public use cases, then practice reading a workflow the way a builder does: where information enters, where decisions happen, where humans stay in charge.

Outcome

Participants understand how an AI-enabled workflow is structured — inputs, decisions, approvals, actions, and evidence.

Participants build:

  • A labeled system map of a real workflow
  • A completed problem-and-people canvas
  • A shared vocabulary for talking about AI systems
Program B02 / 05

Build a Useful AI Workflow

Audience
Intermediate learners and project teams
Formats
Half-day · Full-day

A working session. Teams bring a real problem, map it against the full system map, define what AI may and may not do, and leave with a paper prototype plus an approval and evidence plan that a developer could build from.

Outcome

Participants map and prototype one responsible AI workflow for a problem they actually have.

Participants build:

  • A complete workflow map for a real problem
  • A paper prototype of the AI-assisted steps
  • An approval, boundary, and measurement plan

AI for Local Business Operations

Audience
Small-business owners and support organizations
Formats
Two-hour seminar · Four-week cohort

Built for owners, not engineers. Participants pick one operational pain — missed calls, follow-ups, scheduling, paperwork — and design a bounded, affordable system around it, with cost math they can check before spending anything.

Outcome

Participants identify and prototype one AI-supported operational improvement for their business.

Participants build:

  • An operations pain-point inventory
  • A system canvas for one improvement
  • A cost-and-value worksheet with real numbers
Program D04 / 05

Responsible Agentic Systems

Audience
Advanced students, developers, educators, and program leaders
Formats
Half-day · Full-day · Multi-session

For people ready to build systems that take actions in the world. The program covers permission design, approval gates, logging and auditability, failure testing, cost controls, and the discipline of deciding what a system must never do.

Outcome

Participants understand permissions, approvals, boundaries, evidence, cost, and human oversight in systems that act.

Participants build:

  • A permissions and approvals specification
  • A boundary (never-list) document with safeguards
  • A failure-test plan and audit checklist

Train-the-Trainer

Audience
Educators, instructors, and nonprofit program staff

One day · Two days

For organizations that want to run this curriculum themselves. Participants practice facilitating each core exercise, learn the common failure points of first-time learners, and leave with facilitator guides, materials, and a license path for their institution.

Outcome

Participants learn to facilitate the Crate South system-mapping methodology with their own learners.
